Giorgio DeLuca’s created a thriving, 50-seat café, bar and mini-market at 508 Greenwich Street in west SoHo. CCS collaborated with DeLuca to create a warm, modern, neighborhood setting that appeals throughout the day and night.
The one-room establishment revolves around a central bar, an island of activity with countertop service for eating and drinking. The island is fronted with an espresso bar and display case, which is set up for morning pastries, coffee and tea, transitioning to lunch offerings and then cheese and antipasti for the evening. Intimate tables of various sizes provide a social counterpoint to the bar—street-side, and at the rear of the space, which is more secluded.
508 is located in a turn-of-the-century brick residential building. Great care was taken to preserve the original wall surfaces—brick on one side, and plaster on the other. Hickory, stainless steel, glass and modern furniture provides a visual pop against the old materials. Industrial, hanging-bulb fixtures illuminate the walls and table tops, giving the casual room warmth and life.
