Mid AtlanticPhiladelphia, PA

Urban and Rustic. Past and Present. Tradition and Renewal. This is the essence of MidAtlantic, Chef Daniel Stern’s casual culinary surprise in West Philadelphia’s University City neighborhood. CCS Architecture designed a warm, approachable, urban restaurant to support Stern’s vibrant Pennsylvania Dutch food concept. The 4100 square foot space is creatively crafted from simple and reclaimed materials, taking on a informal, roadhouse feel. An angled wall of reclaimed Western Pennsylvania barn wood runs the length of the room, anchoring the bar, open kitchen and counter seating. Custom lighting fixtures made from recycled fluorescent tubes hang from a long, wooden drop ceiling. A central farm table offers social opportunities between the bar and dining area. Behind the galvanized metal bar, a window invites views to the keg room stocked with local microbrews. Locally fabricated, sliding doors clad in tin enclose a flexible private dining area. Outdoors, a linear fire pit provides warmth and a visual focus for the large dining terrace. MidAtlantic is a place to enjoy the bold flavors of the region within the comfort of a local tap room.  The design encourages frequent visits; it’s easy to drop in for dinner or beers and a ball game.
