Chef Daniel Stern believes that everything modern needs firm roots in the past. That idea is embodied in the design of R2L, an elegant, upscale new restaurant and lounge that reinterprets the glamour and exoticism of the 1930s. Perched high above downtown Philadelphia on the 37th floor of the Residences at Two Liberty Place, the intimate, convivial space recalls the extravagant Art Deco era while celebrating the clean simplicity and spatial balance of modern architecture. A mix of texture, color and pattern brings the long room together. Plush lounge furnishings and cozy booth seats contrast with moments of glimmering light and exposed steel structure. The distinctive palette of materials, including hand-polished zinc, stacked strips of glass, ebonized mahogany, woven leather, zebra-print upholstery and rich, striped carpets, makes for elegant and personal spaces.
